Halfway Reflection
1) Tenaciousness is a competency. What are the behaviors that you have used (or developed) to keep up with the requirements of this course?
2) Tenaciousness is also about attitude. Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving up." What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences most contributed to this?
3) Three tips. What are three tips you would offer next semester's student about (1) fostering the skills that support tenacity and (2) developing the 'tenacious mindset' ?
- The easiest behaviors I have done in order to keep up with the course requirements is to map out all of my work and assignments. I don't wait until the last minute to do my assignments. While they may be submitted close to the due date, I first look at them and plan them out over a week in advance. Another behavior I have used is communication. I have communicated with a few members in my group in order to get the most out of these posts. After a helpful comment on any of my posts, I reach out to the person who commented to see if they have anymore recommendations, and to pick their brain a little as well.
2) Tenaciousness is also about attitude. Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving up." What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences most contributed to this?
- The first and only time I had a feeling of lost hope or "giving up" was when I missed the first two assignments in the course, which were by far the easiest assignments, and also for extra credit. What pulled me through was the drive and determination to get myself back on track, and shoot for an A in the class. During these past two months, I have definitely become more tenacious simply due to the repetitive writing of the same idea. While it does seem unnecessary, it really isn't. The repetition helps me figure out more and more ways to develop my business idea, and by the end of this class I think it will be very solid.
3) Three tips. What are three tips you would offer next semester's student about (1) fostering the skills that support tenacity and (2) developing the 'tenacious mindset' ?
- Get off to a good start. It is never a good feeling to have to dig yourself out of a hole right from the beginning. By getting off to a good start, you will have the confidence that tenacity requires to in order to work.
- Put yourself in a high pressure situation in order to develop greater tenacity. The thing I have noticed during this class is that I work so much better under pressure when I need to make my work good.
- Pick an idea that you are passionate about. If you don't have a business idea that you enjoy and have passion for, you won't be able to be tenacious throughout the whole course. You will eventually burn out, and grow to hate the course as opposed to learning and growing from the course, and possibly even starting a real business idea in the end.

Hey, Sean! You definitely provided students with a lot of helpful advice for taking this class. It's admirable that you've never waited until the last minute, AND communicate with the group for suggestions (I never thought to do that). Your tips are totally different than mine which is great, because I totally agree that students should pick something their passionate about and get assignments done early! It's easy to get behind sometimes, but your tips will make it easier for students from the start.
ReplyDeleteHi Sean,
ReplyDeleteThe way that you detailed the answers to each of these questions was remarkable. I agree with you that mapping out all of your work can be very beneficial as a student in this class because it can be easy to look over an assignment and end up losing points for missing it. Also, I thought that your last tip was the most important thing that you wrote. When you pick a topic that you are passionate about ideas come more naturally, which will allow you to expand on your opportunity and give you plenty of information to work with when completing these assignments.
