Idea Napkin No. 2
Idea Napkin No. 2
- You
- My name is Sean Lanoue, and I am a 3rd year Business Management Major at the University of Florida, with goals to pursue a Masters in International Business. I'd say one of my biggest talents is managing a large group of individuals, along with also being able to manage time and tasks very well. I have especially developed these talents throughout this calendar year as I've served as the Treasurer of my fraternity, managing over 140 brothers. These talents can directly translate to the business concept that I have in mind to create phone jumper cables. My skills as a leader and as a listener will allow me to make the most out of the team environment that would go into starting this business concept.
- What are you offering to customers?
- I am offering an idea to have a tech or engineering company help me create and introduce to a college market. This idea is to have a special cord (kind of like jumper cables) that can connect one person's smartphone to another person's in order to transfer battery juice from the higher battery phone to the lower battery. By creating this, people will no longer have to worry about carrying around a big bulky charger or portable charger. With this, all they need to have on them is a cord, and a friend No wall sockets are needed.
- Who are you offering it to?
- I am offering this concept to college students at first because I feel like they are the most sociable and in need of this product. These students are ones who are in desperate need of finding a solution to their low-battery crisis that they run into every. I am looking for people who are constantly around their friends or any type of coworkers, because if they aren't around people, they won't be able to use the product.
- Why do they care?
- Customers care about this because basically everything they do nowadays is on their phone. We humans use our phones more than any other generation has before. I myself have just edited the settings on my iPhone to limit my social media use per day. My phone will automatically block all of my social media apps as soon as I go over my usage limit. I have done this so that I can save some battery, and limit my screen time. Many other people are thinking of doing the same. Customers will buy this product as opposed to other battery solutions because this is the most user friendly, compact solution out there, compared to portable chargers and wall chargers.
- What are your core competencies?
- As a college student who goes through the struggle of the low-battery crisis, I know first hand how much of a problem this is, and how many of my friends and acquaintances this concept could benefit. What sets me apart from everyone else is that I have the drive to use my resources around campus to market this concept and expose it to everyone.
Overall, I believe that my business concept has elements that all fit together and flow well. If there is any part that has a chance to not be as good as it can be, it is the fact that when you need more battery in your phone, the people with you might also be pretty low on battery. Even though I do not have the electrical engineering knowledge to make this happen, I am encouraging companies to reach out to me in order to turn this idea into a reality as a sold product.
After reading the feedback that Travis gave me, I felt pretty good about my first idea napkin. One of the things that I decided to add was just more personal information/incite in each one of these questions. One of the most important things in business is forming relationships, and you can't do that if you aren't open with your potential customers.

Hey, Sean! I think you've got a really good grasp on why your product will sell and who will buy it. I totally agree that college students will likely get the most use of your cord because they're very sociable and if they can't find a wall plug, they can probably ask a friend to use some of their charge. I recently broke my phone and went four days without any kind of calling/texting, and I can vouch that it made me realize how much we depend on our phones for basic functions.
ReplyDeleteHey Sean,
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your post, it is clear that you did a great job of considering the feedback that I gave you earlier to improve your second Idea Napkin! I agree with you that you have business elements in this that all fit well and flow together. Even though you have recognized your lack of electrical engineering experience, I am sure that you would be able to facilitate this issue so that your product would be successful. I know that there have been plenty of times where if I had possession of your product then I would not have had to deal with an almost dead phone or completely dead one.
Hey Sean, I think that you did a good job of taking the feedback from the first assignment to implementing it into the second one. Your target audience was properly conveyed through this assignment as College kids would be the best option to focus on. They would benefit the most as they are around other people often and seem to run out of battery in their phones a lot. Good Job!
